Job description
The Dowdy Multicultural Center Graduate Student Assistant is a paraprofessional position. The GA’s responsibilities are to:
Peer Mentoring Program:
- Support the overall planning, communication, and implementation of the Peer Mentoring Program
- Work with the Associate Director to Advise and support 2-3 Peer Advisors and 15-30 Peer Mentors
- Tracking communication and information related to reports and email correspondence
- Assist and plan Monthly Mentor Development Days
- Assist in planning and implementing programs for Mentors and Mentees
- Assist in evaluating programs, mentor performance, and overall Mentoring Program effectiveness.
Social Justice Programming and Leadership Education
- Implement and coordinate multicultural awareness and social justice education initiatives within the Dowdy Multicultural center such as: the Ruby Jones Conference on Race, Social Justice and Civic Leadership.
- Support in the planning of social justice education programming throughout the academic year.
- Support in planning and coordination of the Fall and Spring Kente Graduation Celebrations.
- Serve as a resource for training and program development for student focused diversity initiatives and increasing multicultural competence.
- Support the Dowdy Multicultural Center staff in the writing and preparation of assessment, evaluation, and research projects.
Additional responsibilities:
- Attend regular one-on-one meetings with supervisor. This position reports to the Associate Director of the Multicultural Center.
- Participate in collaborative projects, including but not limited to; the Multicultural Student Summit, Kente Graduation Celebration and the Ruby Jones Conference.
- Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty and students across the campus community.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Dowdy Multicultural Center Staff.
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience with planning and implementation of programs and initiatives.
- Self- starter in thinking about next parts of the planning process.
- Ability to work in a team environment by taking, providing, and asking for input.
- Excellent communication skills in receiving instructions, making requests, asking questions, and listening to student needs.
- Understanding and previous involvement with diversity and social justice topics.
- Willingness to learn about programming, diversity, and social justice topics.
Compensation:
Salary includes stipend and 9 credit hours.
Availability:
Must be available to work for 15 hours/week within 9am-4:30pm Monday-Friday time frame.
