Graduate Assistant Position 

Digital Accessibility Assistant 

Academic Year 2026-2027 

Teaching and Learning Center 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position in the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) provides graduate students with the opportunity to work closely with the Accessibility Specialist, instructional designers, and faculty members while gaining hands-on experience in digital accessibility. The Digital Accessibility Assistant (DAA) will join the Digital Accessibility Resource Team, which reports to the Accessibility Specialist, and expands the TLC's capacity to support faculty in creating and remediating accessible digital content. The DAA will provide direct remediation support in response to faculty and staff requests. 

DAAs will receive foundational training in WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) standards and accessibility principles, and will develop specialized expertise in one or more of the following areas: 

Documents, PDFs, and Complex Alternative Text: accessible documents, presentations, and PDF remediation 

Equations and STEM Content: MathML, LaTeX, mathematical notation, scientific content, and technical instructional materials. 

Specialized Content: music notation, GIS and map-based content, and other discipline-specific materials requiring specialized accessibility support. 

Day-to-day responsibilities will include remediating course materials submitted through a centralized intake process and applying quality assurance standards set by the Accessibility Specialist. DAAs may also contribute to training materials, documentation, and continuous improvement of service workflows.  

We are hiring for 9 total positions for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. 

Desired Skills and Competencies 

No prior digital accessibility experience is required. We are looking for candidates with an aptitude for technology, a willingness to learn, and strong attention to detail. Helpful skills and competencies include: 

Strong verbal and written communication 

Effective interpersonal skills 

Proficiency with Microsoft 365 software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams 

Comfortable learning new technology and adapting to changes, including new software and tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, YuJa, and other accessibility-checking tools) 

Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in remediation work 

Interest and curiosity in digital accessibility, universal design, or assistive technology 

Ability to follow established quality assurance standards and workflows 

Ability to manage time and deadlines across multiple concurrent requests 

Willingness to develop specialized expertise in one or more content areas 

Requirements: 

Must be a Graduate Student matriculated into a Master’s or Doctoral program at West Chester University taking 9 credits or more per semester 

Must commit to 15-20 hours per week 

Part-time or Full-time Winter Break and Summer hours may be available 

Must be able to work a hybrid schedule of remote and on-site

Expected Pay: Pay is based on number of credits and associated hours. Specific stipend information can be found on the Graduate Assistant website
