Graduate Assistant - Success Coach

Student Success Coaching provides individualized support to guide undergraduate students toward academic and personal success at WCU. Graduate assistants serve as Success Coaches. They work holistically with students by providing practical skills and strategies for students to achieve their social, academic, and personal goals. 












Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

o  Meeting regularly (weekly, biweekly or monthly) with students for individual appointments, as assigned by program coordinator, to help students develop skills applicable to academic success
o  Guide students through goal setting process to achieve success
o  Familiarity with using self-reflective techniques in working with students
o  Become familiar with on-campus resources
o  Ability to problem solve
o  Manage student scheduling/assigned caseload
o  Maintain records of each student meeting and contacts
o  Present Academic workshops to individuals or groups on time management, test preparation, note-taking, textbook reading, social adjustment, etc.
o  Assist in facilitating and coordinating student success related programs on campus
o  Attending and participating in weekly staff meetings
o  Assisting in light data analysis/record checking as needed
o  Assist in managing Early Alert program

 











Working as a Success Coach provides opportunities to:

o  Connect with undergraduate students to guide them in their academic achievement
o  Independently develop and facilitate workshops geared towards student learning and development
o  Collect, gather, and submit data/reports to improve Success Coaching
o  Apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting
o  Conduct and submit research to WCU’s Research Day
o  Engage in professional development
o  Fulfill program-specific direct and indirect hour requirements (if applicable)
 











Working Conditions:

o  Shared Graduate Office as well as separate spaces for individual and group meetings
o  Flexible hours
o  Periodic meetings with staff, faculty, students, and organizations












Qualifications:

·        The incumbent must be enrolled in graduate studies at West Chester University at the Master’s Degree level.
·        Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for fall 2021; prefer candidates enrolled in 9 or more credits
·        Candidates must exhibit a passion for student support and success in higher education, as well as strong independent work ethic.
·        This position involves one-on-one, as well as group interactions, so the individual must be comfortable working in both settings and presenting to groups.
·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with a diverse student population.

Position offers Tuition Waiver and semester stipend based on enrolled semester credit load.
