Graduate Assistantship, New Student Programs 
 
An exciting opportunity is available for a graduate assistantship (GA) in the Office of New Student Programs (NSP) at West Chester University during the 2023-2024 academic year, August through May. The Graduate Assistant serves as an integral part of the Orientation Team to facilitate two distinct components of NSP: 1) contribute to the design, implementation, and assessment of multiple new student programs and experiences; and 2) assisting with hiring and training for the orientation leader undergraduate staff. The information below outlines some of the responsibilities, attractive skill sets, and hands-on opportunities involved in the position: 
Major Responsibilities: 
Program Logistics  
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of Winter in-person and virtual new student and family orientation programs  
  • Create winter welcome days calendar of events, a welcome week at the start of the Spring semester  
  • Attend welcome week committee meetings 
  • Analyze orientation day assessment data and compile an annual report 
  • Plan, organize, and finalize summer training for orientation leaders and undergraduate coordinators 
  • Other duties as assigned 
 
Student Staff Development  
  • Manage recruitment and hiring process for incoming team of undergraduate coordinators and orientation leaders  
  • Create weekly newsletter for orientation student staff  
  • Lead recognition initiatives for orientation student team including recognition banquet  
  • Attend weekly meetings with undergraduate coordinators (elevated orientation leader position) 
  • Research best practices of orientation leader trainings  
  • Create and evaluate pre-assessment for orientation leaders and undergraduate coordinators to use as a guideline when prioritizing training needs 
  • Host monthly orientation leader meet-ups or socials for students already hired to facilitate team bonding experiences  
  • Mentor undergraduate coordinators and orientation leaders 
  • Other duties as assigned

This GA position will provide 9 tuition credits along with a $1,875 stipend per semester. This GA will be expected to work 15 hours per week in person within the New Student Programs office suite located in 202 Lawrence Center.
