Graduate Assistant for Student Leadership and Involvement

The Office of Student Leadership & Involvement is seeking applicants for a Graduate Assistant position for the 2024-2025 academic year. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Leadership & Involvement, the Graduate Assistant will assist the Office of Student Leadership & Involvement by supporting student organizations, assisting with the development and implementation of student leadership programs, and engagement and leadership initiatives for students, faculty, and staff.

Applicants must be enrolled in graduate school at West Chester University at time of employment.

BENEFITS: 

  • Fall/Spring Semester (for each semester) 
    • Tuition wavier credits: 12
    • Stipend: $5,000

 

DETAILS: 

  • 10-month contract August - May (first day of classes to last day of classes)
  • 20 hours per week
  • Weekday hours will be set based on availability
  • May be asked to "flex schedule" to support evening or weekend events as needed
  • Must be available to plan for and attend staff training in August and January the week before classes begin

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Support student organization development:

  • Utilize RamConnect (student engagement platform) to assist student organization management operations
  • Manage event organization approval process to mitigate student risk.
  • Supervise Leadership Consultants that assist with various components of student organization development.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and assessment of student organization executive board officer trainings and organization transition processes.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and assessment of the Fall and Spring Involvement Fairs.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of the new and forming organization process in coordination with the Leadership Consultants and the Student Government Association.
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with Leadership Consultants and the Student Government Association (SGA) Executive team.
  • Assist with anti-hazing compliance meetings for selective membership student organizations.

Support leadership development (content and implementation): 

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of major leadership events cosponsored by the office of Student Leadership & Involvement including the Ruby Jones Conference, Fall Leadership Conference, Student Leadership Summit, Student Leadership Awards Ceremony, and other hallmark leadership programs and events.
  • Coordination and facilitation of the Michael Horrock’s Leadership Institute for Varsity Athletes (programming occurs on Sunday evenings-must be available most Sunday evenings of the semester).
  • Coordination of the Explore Leadership Series in partnership with Residence Life.
  • Coordination of the Sports Club Leadership Series in partnership with Campus Recreation.

Student Government Association (SGA) – Co Advising Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary staff advisor to at least two Executive Board members.
  • Attend Executive Board meetings, individual meetings with Executive Board Officers, and any special events hosted by SGA.

Assist with engagement strategies for the Office of Student Leadership & Involvement: 

  • Assist in coordinating social media and marketing efforts in coordination with the Leadership Consultant team.
  • Support RamConnect (online engagement system) utilization which includes site management as well as training and troubleshooting for faculty, staff, clubs and organizations.
  • Support assessment efforts for the Office of Student Leadership & Involvement.
  • Support engagement strategies through the use of visual and digital mediums.
  • Support Advisor Appreciation programming and development of Advisor training materials.
  • Provide support for major leadership events cosponsored by the office of Student Leadership & Involvement including the Ruby Jones Conference, Fall Leadership Conference, Student Leadership Summit, Student Leadership Awards Ceremony, and other hallmark leadership programs and events.

 Administration: 

  • Attend all departmental staff meetings.
  • Attend all trainings, orientations, new staff programs and workshops as appropriate.
  • Volunteer on Division of Student Affairs committees that pertain to career interests and professional development goals.
  • Contribute to departmental work groups.
