Job Description

Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Retention & Engagement

Department: Academic Success Program 

Position Type: Part-time / Graduate Assistant (15 hours/week)

Duration: Spring 2024 with potential to continue

 

Overview

The Academic Success Program is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Assistant to support the implementation and evaluation of the cohort-based student retention programming. This position will play a crucial role in enhancing student engagement, fostering community, and improving retention rates among our diverse student population. This is an on-campus in-person role. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Retention Specialist, the Graduate Assistant for Retention & Engagement will: 

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of retention initiatives and events aimed at ASP/Act 101 students.
  • Assist with data management including collecting, analyzing, and maintaining data related to student engagement, academic performance, and retention metrics.
  • Assist in case management and student outreach.
  • Communicate with cohort members through emails, surveys, and social media to gather feedback and promote program activities.
  • Assist in organizing and implementing student workshops and social events designed to enhance student development and promote community building.
  • Assist in overseeing peer assistant program through weekly check ins and monitoring ASP/ACT-101 Study Lounge.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of program effectiveness by preparing reports on attendance, engagement, and student feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with ASP faculty, staff, and student workers. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

 Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a graduate program at West Chester University is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Experience in event planning, program coordination, or academic support is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and data management software; familiarity with survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey) is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the university community.
