Graduate Assistant for Student Conduct
General Description:
This position will be under the direction of a full-time professional staff member for the Office of Student Conduct .The assistantship will provide exposure and experience in many areas of Student Conduct such as supporting the office in preparing and facilitating University Hearing Boards, ensuring student compliance on required sanctions, serving as a Hearing Officer, supporting the office’s research and assessment efforts, facilitating educational workshops or other outreach efforts, and contributing to other projects as needed. This assistantship will provide an opportunity to network, learn the ins and outs of conduct-related initiatives, and learn how these areas contribute to the University community and student learning.
Job Duties:
This position will be assigned duties in one or more of the following areas. Assignments will be determined based on departmental need, and experience/interest of the candidates. This position will also assist in completing special projects as needed and take advantage of professional development opportunities provided.
Hearing, Database, and Administrative Support:
- Assist Assistant Director in scheduling, assembling, and preparing materials for, and facilitating University Hearing and Appellate Boards.
- Work closely with staff to monitor and assist with necessary follow-up when students have not completed appropriate sanctions.
Student Hearing Officer:
- Serve as a University Hearing Officer to adjudicate lower to mid-level cases(e.g., noise, hall sports, guest issues).
- Document case management and utilize Maxient software to notify students of violations and outcomes.
Education, Outreach and Assessment:
- Facilitate or co-facilitate educational workshops or outreach events sponsored by the Office of Student Conduct
- Implement and maintain assessment activities to provide evidence of learning outcomes for sanctions as well as other areas as needed (e.g., the conduct process, training initiatives, and participation in the University Hearing Board).
- Work with online survey platforms which includes maintaining written documentation of assessment practices, procedures, and processes and support the office in University Hearing Board recruitment, marketing, and conducting interviews.
Expectations:
- Maintain 20 office hours per week, depending on compensation. This role requires some hours to be outside of regular office hours (e.g.) facilitating educational workshops on Sunday evenings when students are not in class).
- Attend meetings as scheduled; including one-on-ones, staff meetings, Hearing Officer meetings and divisional meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality of all student records.
Qualifications:
- Acceptance into a West Chester University Graduate Program
- Organizational, administrative, and planning experience
- Public relations, leadership, and advisory skills
- Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature
- Oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people
- Working knowledge of computer operations in PC format
Description/Compensation for full-time Graduate Assistantships:
- Academic Year Appointment with Tuition Waiver up to 12 credits per semester, must be registered for at least 9 credits
- Stipend $5,000per semester ($10,000 for the academic year)
- 20 hours per week
